Nepal's three worlds, one climate story — from the terai to the Himalaya
Nepal is one of the world's most ecologically diverse countries — tropical plains, mid-hill forests, alpine meadows and permanent glaciers within 200 kilometres. It is also one of the most climate-vulnerable. This module connects sensor readings to the big picture: how ecosystems work, how communities depend on them, how traditional knowledge and modern science complement each other, and what it means to pursue justice in a world of unequal climate risk.

The environment module is the most explicitly values-oriented in the curriculum. While the science is real and rigorous, the activities deliberately connect data to equity, justice and tradition. Teachers should be comfortable with productive disagreement in the classroom — questions about who is responsible for climate change and what Nepal is owed do not have neat answers, and students who reach different conclusions from the same evidence are doing exactly the right thing. The traditional knowledge activity (env-03) requires sensitivity: local practices should be treated with genuine respect, not as curiosities to be compared against "real science". The goal is complementarity, not hierarchy.
