Partners and Networks
HICS works alongside international research networks, Nepali community organisations, and open-source technology communities. Science done from here is open to the world.
Community & local government
The local government and communities of Dho Tarap, Dolpo, where HICS's founder has worked for years. There is no formal agreement — it is a longstanding working relationship that grounds HICS's high-altitude research and education in the place itself.
A locally led nonprofit founded in 2009 by Crystal Mountain School alumni, working on education, health, and sustainable energy in Dho Tarap, Dolpo. HICS's founder works with Vision Dolpo as an advisor, and the collaboration is how HICS comes to instrument high-altitude school buildings.
Design & architecture
An architecture and design studio working to a “Research, Design, Build” philosophy: modern Himalayan architecture grounded in vernacular technique and local materials. Akarang designs the passive-solar buildings in Dolpo — including Crystal Mountain School — that HICS instruments, and collaborates with HICS and Vision Dolpo on passive-solar and vernacular design research.
